Stourport Sports Club Plans

Please find below some notes which are intended to help members understand the plans which have been drawn up (The plans were drawn up after consultation with all members of Stourport Sports Club). The notes are not exhaustive but contain some of the main bits of information which are useful to know when looking at the plans. Please remember that the plans are not final and have only at this stage just been submitted for approval, they may be subject to change.

External
The new building is currently planned to be built on the original foundations and will follow the same footprint, so the external shape of the building will be very similar to the original. The roofline is proposed to be lower and the clock tower has been replaced by a ventilation beehive. The plans also include a separate entrance for the function room. The building will be sited in the same place.
For an outline design of the elevations please click here.
For an outline design of the perspective views please click here.

Internal
Inside the building the central corridor has been retained and the function room remains very similar at the back of the building. The garages are no longer a part of the building and will be relocated elsewhere on site. The whole building will also be level, there will no longer be a ramp down the central corridor.

The left hand side of the building is now solely devoted to social facilities, operations, bar and catering. There is an extra lounge/bar that has been created at the front of the building which in conjunction with the existing function room will allow 2 social facilities to be used at the same time. The lounge at the front of the building can also be divided into meeting room space. The kitchen is now on the same side as the bar to ensure operations are smoother and easier.

The right hand side of the building is devoted to changing rooms and toilets. There are 4 changing rooms in total which are all slightly larger than the previous ones. They all include additonal showers and a toilet in each one. There are also now 2 separate male and female toilet blocks, which are also larger than the previous ones. The first aid room, disabled toilet/shower and referees changing rooms are still included at the far right of the building.

It is intended that everyday access to the building will be through the main entrance at the front of the building. Sports users will then enter the changing rooms and leave through the "sports entrance/exit" on the far right of the building. When returning to the building to change they will enter through the "sports entrance/exit" to access the changing rooms and then access the lounge from here. There is a set of doors half way along the main corridor which can be used to divide the building. If there is a function taking place and the front lounge is being used these can be closed to keep both events separate. Both events will access a toilet block either side of the doors. Function room users will access their function via the entrance at the back of the building that goes directly into the function room.
For an outline design of the ground floor please click here.

Netball Covered Courts

Plans have been approved for 2 netball courts to be enclosed by a covered enclosure at Stourport Sports Club. These will be sited at the far end of the existing netball courts in between the hockey pitches. For further information and to view the submitted plans please follow the links below.

Subs Payments Now Available Online!!

You can pay your subs online as from now! Please go to the members section and click the "SHC Shops" sub-heading. You can pay with any debit/credit card. If you have a Paypal account, then just use that! You do not need a Paypal account to use this service... check it out! If you get the opportunity during the check out process to enter any additional info, please include the player names to whom the subscription applies. If you do not get this option (the option doesn't appear sometimes), please follow up your purchase with an email to the club (use the contact us page), including the player names and the transaction ID. This will help us to associate payments with players.
I will work on getting this process a little slicker.

The entire process is extremely secure and very straightforward. We will be using this kind of payment scheme for kit and other club services/events, (eventually)!!

www.buy.at/SHC

We have received our first cheque from www.buy.at/SHC. This was for a very small number of transactions, but it bought in 40 quid to the Club coffers. For those of you that are not aware, the www.buy.at scheme allows organisations (like us) to raise funds by providing a Stourport Hockey Club shopping portal on the web.
Basically, there are hundreds of very well established stores that are available through the www.buy.at service.
To name a few, there are:

  • Amazon
  • John Lewis
  • Marks and Spencer
  • HMV
  • IKEA
  • BT
  • Tesco
  • Expedia
  • Mothercare
  • Premier Inn
There are literally hundreds of stores available, offering services like shopping, travel, insurance, online services and many other items. There is absolutely no downside to shopping this way. You can still use your existing account with any of the online shops and services and all of the same offers are available by going through the www.buy.at/SHC portal. All that is required, in order to raise funds for the club, is that you access the store via our Stourport Hockey Club "portal" at www.buy.at/SHC.

If you do any shopping online, or buy any services online, then please try and remember to do it through the above link, (remember to bookmark the link in your web browser)!

Please feel free to forward the link to any family and friends that you feel would like to help raise funds for the Club, (don't send out loads of SPAM messages to every email address you have though...)!

This could be a tremendous way for us to really boost our funds, all it needs is for all of us to remember to use the link!

SHC Newsletter

I hope you all had a great Christmas and best wishes to you all for a Happy New Year. It is now time to burn that turkey off! The season kicks off this weekend and we look forward to a great 2nd half of the season.

We will soon be starting an SHC Newsletter, to keep members and supporters of the club up to date on activities (including the re-building of the club house). You can subscribe to the newsletter on the homepage of the club website.
If you have some news or information which you think should feature in a newsletter, please send it to us here.
Also, can I ask you all for feedback on how you would like to see the club house improved upon when it is rebuilt. It is very important that we get as much evidence of our members wishes as possible, so that we can push our ideas for improvement forward. You can provide feedback by clicking here.

Man charged with arson

Interim Arrangements

Thank you to all those members who have sent messages of support since the sad news about the Sports Club has been circulated. The Sports Club and the Hockey Club are working hard to make arrangements going forward and notifications to members will be sent out on a regular basis.

Due to the current circumstances at the Sports Club after the fire please see details below for the immediate interim arrangements:

ADULT TRAINING & VETERANS
All adult training this week will take place as normal (Men – Tuesday 8-10pm, Ladies – Wednesday 8-10pm). These will be the last sessions before Christmas and we will notify you shortly of when these will start again. Arrangements have been made for changing and toilet facilities to be available at the school during these times. There will be someone on site to direct you to these and open and lock them as necessary.
The mens’ veterans game on Wednesday this week will also go ahead as normal.

JUNIOR TRAINING
The decision has been taken to cancel all Wednesday night junior training sessions that were due to take place before Christmas. Junior training on a Wednesday will re-start after Christmas on 9th January.

JUNIOR ACADEMY
The junior academy on a Friday night (7-8.30pm) will be running for the next 2 weeks and will finish on Friday 14th December. There will be access to toilet facilities during this time, but we would prefer it if they were not needed.

MATCHES AT THE WEEKEND
All matches at the weekends before Christmas will go ahead as normal. Changing and toilet facilities will be made available at the school, although it is unlikely that we will be able to provide teas this side of Christmas. Teams that are travelling to our venue will be made aware of this by our fixture secretaries.

ARRANGEMENTS GOING FORWARD
Alternative provision for changing, teas and social facilities are currently being investigated. Once arrangements for after Christmas have been finalised, information will be circulated to members.

Message from Rob Lashford

Rob Lashford, one of our Directors on the Sports Club Committee, has issued the following statement:

Dear All

Regrettably I write to you to inform you that in the early hours of this morning the Sports Club was burnt to the ground - believed to be arson.

The pitches remain unaffected and the floodlights are working which will allow hockey to still be played.

We will forward you more details, as they are available, on how we propose to function this weekend and beyond.

As a Hockey Club we will need to support the Sports Club in any way we can to ensure we put this disastrous occurrence behind us.
