Stourport Stars Steer England to Masters Victory!

Stourport stars of past and present played a crucial role in England Masters winning Gold in the International Masters competition in Hong Kong. England took victory in 3 of the 3 agegroups, over 45's, 50's and 55's, with the Over 40 "Juniors" taking a creditable 3rd place.

Our very own David Knott starred for the over 45's team, and ex Stourport player Nisar Chaudhry captained the side. Ex Stourport player Derek Pittaway also captained the over 40's team.

Many congratulations to all involved! You can find out more about the tournament, together with additional photos, scorelines and editorial by clicking here.

OPPOSITION: North Staffs 1st XI.

VENUE: Stourport Astro Pitches.

HALF TIME: 2-2.

FULL TIME SCORE: 5-2.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Rene Johnson.
Jodi Vincent.
Kate Miller.
Sarah Cavendish (2).

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 1st XI maintained their third place in the Midland
Division 1 last weekend with a thumping 5-2 victory over visitors
North Staffs 1st XI.
Stourport took the lead when some good build up play resulted in the
home side's Rene Johnson tore through the Staffs defence and put the
ball into the top corner of the goal. Stourport had to be on the ball
though, and their defence especially keeper Sally Smith produced a good
performance. Despite this Stourport, found themselves back on level
terms when they conceded a short corner, which their visitors coolly
converted. Stourport were still keeping possession and passed the ball
around well and when Jodi Vincent took the ball into the oppositions
'D'; she used her reverse stick to shoot the home side back into the
lead. But, once again their visitors came back at them and leveled the
scores before the break, and again it was from a short corner.
A positive half time talk meant that Stourport stepped up their game
in the second half, making solid passes and quick play around the
pitch, the home side then retook the lead, and this time they weren't't
going to lose it, when Kate Miller converted a short corner. Stourport'
s aggressive play finally became to strong for the North Staffs defence
which conceded another short corner which Sarah Cavendish duly
dispatched into the goal. Then moments later the visiting defence
conceded another short and once again up stepped Cavendish to put the
match beyond the reach of their visitors, although North Staffs did put
their hosts under pressure towards the of the match Stourport weren't
to moved and points were going to stay firmly at The Kingsway.

HALF TIME: 2-0.

FULL TIME SCORE: 5-0.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Hannah Goss.
Sophie Harris.
Liz Cooke.
Sarah Cavendish.
Jade Marshall –Walker.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 1st XI playing in the second of two matches last
week, secured their second victory of the weekend at home, beating
Solihull Blossomfield 5-0 in the National trophy.
Stourport with some good passing play around the pitch took the lead
through Hannah Goss and after some great individual skill from Suzanne
Webley whose pass found Sophie Harris who slotted the ball home for
Stourport's second. The visitor's did come forward but all their
attacking play was broken down by a solid home defence.
Stourport began the second half well with a great individual effort
from Liz Cooke, which saw her calmly smash the ball over the keeper.
Stourport were stretching away from their visitor's and added a fourth
goal when their player of the match Sarah Cavendish, who took an early
self pass worked her way into the 'D' and fired the ball pass the
keeper to add to the two goals that she'd scored on the Saturday.
Stourport hadn't't finished the scoring yet and rounded off a great all
round team performance with a fifth goal, when Webley showing some more
great skills worked her way through the opposing defence and found Jade
Marshall – Walker on the far post who put past the keeper to round off
the scoring for the home side.

MATCH DATE: Saturday 7th November 2009.

TEAM: Stourport 2nd XI.

OPPOSITION: Kettering 2nd XI.

VENUE: Away.

HALF TIME: 0-1.

FULL TIME SCORE: 3-2.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Caroline Sidell (2).
Chloe Marshall –
Walker.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 2nd XI fraught back twice in their Midland
Conference South match against Kettering last week, finally beating
their hosts 3-2.
Stourport despite having a lot of the pressure in the first half were
unable to create any substantial chances in the opening period, and to
make matters worse for the visitors, Kettering took the lead from open
play after twenty minutes of the half, a lead which they were to take
into the break.
But this was tough competitive match with Stourport scoring within ten
minutes of the re start, leveling the scores with a Caroline Sidell
goal from a short corner. Stourport still had some defending to do,
with Olivia Laight in particular doing well at the back for the
visitors. But, Kettering, two places and two points behind Stourport
in the table, wanted the points as well, and five minutes after
Stourport had equalised the home side went ahead again. The visitors
equalised for the second time in match with just ten minutes remaining
on the clock, when Chloe Marshall – Walker tapped in a Sidell shot.
Into the final five Stourport stepped up their pace, and went for
broke, and scored the winner when Shelley Tromans pushed the ball right
to Stourport's player of the match Holly Lashford, who set up Sidell to
slip the ball into the goal, and steal the three points from under the
noses of Kettering in what had been a competitive and physical match.

NEWSPAPER REPORT

MATCH DATE: Saturday 7th November 2009.

TEAM: Stourport 3rd XI.

OPPOSITION: Bromsgrove 2nd XI.

VENUE: Away.

HALF TIME: 0-4.

FULL TIME SCORE: 2-6.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Rhiannon Linnington-Payne.
Georgi Linnington-Payne.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 3rd XI lost their unbeaten record in the
Worcestershire 2nd Division, when they were beaten 6-2, by last
weekends hosts Bromsgrove 2nd's. To add insult to injury for the
visitors the result meant that Bromsgrove leaped forged Stourport and
now lead the table by a single point.
Stourport effectively lost this match in the opening thirty five
minutes, as the visitors struggled to match a Bromsgrove side who took
the lead as early as the fifth minute. By the time the half time
whistle had blown, things had got worse for the visitors in fact it was
three goals worse as Stourport found themselves 4-0 down at the break.
A rejuvenated Stourport side took to the field in the second half,
dominating proceedings and pulling a goal back three minutes after the
re start, through Stourport's player of the match, a title she shared
with Alison Baron, Rhiannon Linnington-Payne . If the goal was to
spark a fight back then the spark was quickly extinguished, as
Bromsgrove scored a fifth a minute later. The visitors weren't
deterred though, the majority of the possession still belonged with
Stourport, but for all of their possession, and all the short corners
they were awarded they must'must've't't score. Bromsgrove on the other
hand could, and added a sixth before Georgi Linnington-Payne pulled
another goal back for the visitors, fifteen minutes from time. But, it
was all to little too late, as far as Stourport were concerned, as the
league leaders saw their unbeaten record and their place at the top of
the division slipping away to their hosts.

MATCH DATE: Saturday 7th November 2009.

TEAM: Stourport 4th XI.

OPPOSITION: Kings Heath 2nd XI.

VENUE: Stourport Astro Pitches.

HALF TIME: 2-0.

FULL TIME SCORE: 5-0.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Teri Baron (5).

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 4th XI bounced back to winning ways with ad
vengeance, after the previous weeks disappointing draw, two goals in
the first half, and three in the second being enough to finish off the
challenge from their visitors, to The Kingsway. The home side finally
running out 5-0 victors over Kings Heath 2nd XI.
The passing and movement of the home side was irresistible but it was
their short corners that provided the sucker punch in this match, and
on all five occasions the punch was delivered by Captain Teri Baron.
The first arrived in the opening ten minutes, and was followed before
the twenty minute mark, by a second and the only goal of the five not
to have been scored from a short. The visitors were by no means out of
this match but it was Stourport who always looked the more dangerous,
but were unable to add any further score before half time.
The re start saw the home side continue where they'd left off, with
two quick goals both clinically dispatched into the corner of the goal,
despite the fourth looking as though it had been touched in by Caroline
Wilson on the post, it was Baron, who unsurprisingly was voted player
of the match by her teammates, that had dispatched both shots. However
if you were thinking that Kings Heath were no longer involved in this
match you'd be mistaken. The visitors continued as they had done
throughout to make in roads into the Stourport half making enough of an
impression to ensure that the home defence was unable to completely
relax. But, a fifth Stourport goal duly followed, again delivered from
the stick of Baron and again from a short corner, against a Kings Heath
defence who by this stage must've been quaking every time they conceded
a short corner. But to their credit the visitors never let their heads
drop and at one stage forced a number of short corners of their own, in
quick succession, but the home side stung by the way they'd dropped two
points right at the death the previous week were in no mood to concede
any goals this week.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
A brace from Allan Moss helped Stourport men's 7th XI to secure a 3-2
victory over their visitors Lodge Park, in the Fathom league last
weekend.
The home side took the lead against a fit looking Lodge Park through a
penalty flick which was converted by Moss, but the visitors hit back
with two goals against the run of play to leave Stourport trailing at
the break.
The home side fighting back in the second half pulled themselves level
through a goal by their player of the match, John Yates who was playing
his first match for three years, and then a second by Moss resurrected
Stourport's lead which they carried through to the final whistle but
not before their goalkeeper Tom Netson had made some fine saves to keep
them in the game.

‘Victory Moves 1st’s up to 3rd!’

LADIES SECTION
NEWSPAPER REPORT

MATCH DATE: Saturday 31st October 2009.

TEAM: Stourport 1st XI.

OPPOSITION: Sutton Coalfield 2nd XI.

VENUE: Away.

HALF TIME: 1-1.

FULL TIME SCORE: 2-1.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Rene Johnson.
Kate Fletcher.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Despite a fight back by Sutton Coalfield in the first half of this
Midland Division 1 fixture, Stourport 1st XI ladies managed to snatch a
late winner against their visitors to The Kingsway, last weekend, the 2-
1 victory enabling them to move up to third in the table.
Stourport came out strongly in the first half with some good passing
and movement over the width and breadth of the pitch, prevented Sutton
Coldfield from holding possession for long, keeping their defence under
pressure. Stourport's first goal came fairly early in the half when
some good passing play around the 25 yard line let Rene Johnson in from
midfield to score. The visitors came back strongly and took advantage
of some bad communication in Stourport's defence, allowing them to put
pressure on the home side. However, for the time beginning their was
no change in the score line, and Stourport were able to counterattack
on each occasion. But, Sutton eventually managed to make this pressure
count when they converted a short corner, smashing the ball into the
right hand corner of the goal to level the scores at the break.
Stourport came out quickly at the beginning of the second half, but,
found themselves constantly running into the Sutton players. However,
once they began to pass the ball with good pace they were able to put
pressure on the Sutton side, but time after time and increasingly to
the frustration of the Stourport players, they saw their shots saved by
the Sutton keeper. However, the home side never let their frustration
show and they still worked hard to keep up the good passing, down
either side of the pitch, with Stourport's player of the match, Liz
Cooke, in particular working hard all over the pitch, using her pace to
challenge the visitors defence. And, it was good passing play around
the defence five minutes from time, which allowed Kate Fletcher to slip
the ball past the nimble Sutton keeper, to seal the victory.

MATCH DATE: Saturday 31st October 2009.

TEAM: Stourport 2nd XI.

OPPOSITION: Luton Town 1st XI.

VENUE: Stourport Astro Pitches.

HALF TIME: 3-0.

FULL TIME SCORE: 7-1.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Caroline Sidell (3).
Jade Marshall – Walker.
Melissa Kennedy.
Shelley Tromans.
Alex
Totney.
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
After losing 3-0 the previous week Stourport ladies 2nd XI returned to
winning ways after they put seven past visitors Luton Town 1st XI, in
their 7-1, Midland Conference South, victory last week.
Stourport produced a much better performance in this match than they
have been of late, and created a number of chances in the opening
minutes before Caroline Sidell opened the scoring after fifteen minutes
from open play, with youngster Jade Marshall – Walker adding a second
after a short corner had been slipped to Holly Lashford who found, the
home sides player of the match, Shelley Tromans who in turn passed to
Marshall – Walker to convert. Stourport rounded off their first half
performance with another goal for Sidell who added her second of the
half to give the hosts a three to nil advantage at the break.
The scoring continued in the second half as Stourport came out of the
break harder, adding a fourth with Sidell's hat trick goal and then a
fifth through Melissa Kennedy, before Luton who had managed to force
some fine saves out of Viv Wakeman, in the Stourport goal, pulled the
scores back to 5-1 from a breakaway, this goal may have given the
visitors some hope of a comeback and the Stourport defence certainly
had to be alert enough, to prevent any further score, with right back
Fran Baron in particular putting in a good performance along with all
the other backs. However, a comeback was not to be for the visitors,
as the home side's ability to move the ball around quickly was
irresistible, and resulted in Stourport pulling further ahead with
goals by Tromans and then Alex Totney, both from open play to seal the
three points and a 7-1 victory.

MATCH DATE: Saturday 31st October 2009.

TEAM: Stourport 3rd XI.

OPPOSITION: Kidderminster 2nd XI.

VENUE: Stourport Astro Pitches.

HALF TIME: 1-0.

FULL TIME SCORE: 3-1.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Alison Baron.
Louise Bagnall (2).

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 3rd XI took the honours in this local derby, last
weekend, against visitors Kidderminster, with a 3-1 victory in this
Worcestershire 2nd Division match.
Kidderminster making the short trip along the A451, and five places
below league leaders Stourport, found themselves under attack from the
hit back, but despite being short of players the visitors put up a
tough resistance in defence, thwarting the home sides efforts. The
visitors did finally falter at the back, in the final moments of the
first half allowing Alison Baron to put the home side ahead at the
break.
Kidderminster now boosted by an extra player, made this encounter a
more even affair, as they pushed for and duly got an equaliser. The
goal acted as a wake up for Stourport who picked up their game. But,
again they encountered a Kidderminster side unwilling to give away the
points, and the visitors had to wait, until near the end to make
certain that they continued the season with maximum points, when
firstly their player of the match Louise Bagnall, converted a penalty
flick, past the Kidderminster goalkeeper, that had previously done so
well in preventing the home side from scoring, and then Bagnall again
scored form open play to ensure that the visitors wouldn't mount a late
comeback

MATCH DATE: Saturday 31st October 2009.

TEAM: Stourport 4th XI.

OPPOSITION: Ludlow.

VENUE: Away.

HALF TIME: 1-1.

FULL TIME SCORE: 2-2.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Caroline Wilson.
Denise Brandon.
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
A last grasp equaliser saw Stourport ladies 4th XI denied all three
points, against their hosts Ludlow 1st's, in this Worcestershire 3rd
Division match last weekend.
The match began evenly with fifth placed Stourport more than matching
second placed Ludlow and in fact it was the visitors that took the lead
through Denise Brandon who touched the ball in at the post, in the
opening fifteen minutes. The hosts were still well and truly in this
match, with some good passing hockey, and eventually leveled the
scores. The play then stagnated, the interruption of the game so
Stourport could change their shirts, to relieve the confusion of a
clash colours, for awhile was the most exciting thing to happen, as
both sides pushed forward but couldn't unlock each others defences. It
was the visitors who would finish the half on the attack, though, with
a short corner, given just as the half time whistle was blown.
However, they were unable to take advantage of this opportunity; with
the initial shot cleared the ball fell to a Stourport player whose shot
was miscued and was firmly cleared from the circle.
Stourport began the second half much stronger than they'd finished the
first, and mid way through regained the lead when, their player of the
match, Caroline Wilson, on the post, guided the ball in. Both sides
continued to push for goals, but Ludlow were unable to break down the
Stourport, and Stourport could and should've added further goals, but
for the fine saves of the Ludlow keeper, who kept out the most certain
of goals. However, it looked as though the visitors had done enough to
win the three points, but as in the first half a short corner was
awarded just as the whistle was blown for time, but, on this occasion
it was Ludlow who would have the chance of one last crack of the whip.
One short corner became two and it was this one that would salvage a
point for the home side, as the ball flew into the goal between the
shoulders of the keeper and a defender on the post, it appeared to have
hit the net and not the backboard, but much to the consternation of the
Stourport players, the umpires gave the goal and the visitors had to be
content with a point and not three.

TEAM: Stourport 7th XI.

OPPOSITION: Bromsgrove.

VENUE: Away.

HALF TIME: 2-1.

FULL TIME SCORE: 4-1.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Chris Davis.
Lee Marsh.
Josh Martin.
Steve Li.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
It may not been the thirteen goals that they scored the previous week,
but, Stourport men's 7th XI still managed to put four past a full
strength Bromsgrove side, in their 4-1 Fathom league victory last week.
The visitors putting in an all around good performance avenged their
host's rare victory last season, with goals by Chris Davis and Lee
Marsh which gave them a 2-1 lead at the break. With both Stourport
player of the match John Blake and Allan Moss excelling in the centre
of the pitch, the 7th's followed up their two first half goals, with a
further two goals in the second half by Josh Martin and Steve Li to
round off the victory. It could well have been six goals for the
visitors if the post hadn't prevented Moss from scoring a brace.

‘4th’s Run Leaders, Harborne Close!’

MATCH DATE: Saturday 24th October 2009.

TEAM: Stourport 1st XI.

OPPOSITION: Edgbaston 1st XI.

VENUE: Away.

HALF TIME: 1-0.

FULL TIME SCORE: 1-1.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Liz Cooke.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Despite taking a goal's lead at the half time break, Stourport 1st XI
ladies found themselves pegged back by their hosts Edgbaston last week
in the Midland Division 1, the match finally ending up as a 1-1 draw.
Stourport began the match well playing the ball around the pitch
quickly, and went into an early lead with a speedy attack by Liz
Cooke. Edgbaston found their attacks were quickly stopped by Stourport'
s continuing good play, but towards the end of the half Stourport began
to slow their play down giving the home side a chance to pressure the
visitors defence with a number of short corners, which were dealt with
well by the Stourport defenders. Stourport pushed forward again
towards the end of the half and even managed to score a second, only
for Jodi Vincent's effort to be disallowed, as the half time whistle
had been blown fractionally before the goal went in.
Stourport's game slowed in the second half and unable to the pass to
each other without running into contact, Edgbaston's attack began to
put more and more pressure on the visitors defence, and winning more
and more short corners, most of which were defended well, however
eventually the home side broke through the Stourport defence, a short
corner hit straight to the right post was put into the backboard.
Edgbaston continued to pressure their visitor's defence, which seemed
to get to Stourport, who seemed unable to prevent themselves from
running into Edgbaston players. Still the home players were just as
unable to add to the scoreline, leaving both sides with a share of the
points.

OPPOSITION: Birmingham University 3rd XI.

VENUE: Stourport Astro Pitches.

HALF TIME: 0-1.

FULL TIME SCORE: 0-3.

STOURPORT SCORERS: .

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 2nd XI, failed to build on last weekends visit by
Birmingham University's 3rd XI in the Midland Conference South. The
visitors heading back to Birmingham with a 3-0 victory.
Birmingham University came out at their hosts hard from the offset of
this encounter, with keeper Sally Smith producing some fine saves to
deny the visitors. The hosts did create some chances of their own, but
were unable to put them away. Meanwhile the visitors were fairing a
bit better, for despite the saves of Smith, Birmingham Uni were ahead
at the break, with a quality, if nonetheless unlucky goal for the
hosts.
Stourport began the second half stronger and pushed for an equaliser,
but they were unable to convert their chances. The hosts still had
some defending to do though, which they did so with vengeance,
Stourport's player of the match, Sarah Taylor at centre back was the
pick of the bunch but, all of the defenders proved their worth as the
visitors looked to seal the points. Unfortunately for the hosts
Birmingham did seal the victory with two further goals in the final
five minutes of the match, quelling any chance that Stourport may have
had to snatch a draw.

VENUE: Away.

HALF TIME: 1-1.

FULL TIME SCORE: 3-1.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Abbie Yapp.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 3rd XI have now played five and won five in the
Worcestershire 2nd Division. Their latest victory, last weekend saw
them beat hosts, Harborne 4th XI 3-1.
As in other weeks Stourport again made in roads into their oppositions
half but were unable to create any substantial worries for the Harborne
keeper, who continually denied the visitors in front of goal. However,
the visitors did take the lead through an Abbie Yapp goal, only for
Harborne to catch the Stourport defence on the back foot, and equalise
before the break.
Stourport tightened their defence and again attacked their opposition
with a renewed vigor, but, still Harborne's keeper thwarted them until
Rhiannon Linnington-Payne managed to scramble two goals past, Stourport'
s nemesis in the Harborne goal to seal the victory and continue their
unbeaten run, which now sees them two points clear at the top of the
table.

MATCH DATE: Saturday 24th October 2009.

TEAM: Stourport 4th XI.

OPPOSITION: Harborne 5th XI.

VENUE: Away.

HALF TIME: 1-1.

FULL TIME SCORE: 2-3.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Caroline Wilson.
Denise Brandon.
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 4th XI should surely consider themselves unlucky when
they traveled to the Worcestershire 3rd Division league leaders,
Harborne 5th XI, last weekend, where they were narrowly beaten 3-2 by
their hosts, in a match that saw both sides take the lead and then lose
it again.
With Harborne having won their last two matches 11-1 and 7-1,
Stourport knew that they were going to be in for a tough match.
However, the visitors withstood the initial onslaught by Harborne, and
were creating some attacks of their own when Harborne scored their
first, the ball creeping in at the post from the home side's first
short corner. Stourport didn't crumble though far from it, in fact
they just battled harder for the ball and got their reward a few
minutes later, when they equalised through a short corner of their
own. Caroline Wilson perfectly placed on the post to sweep the ball in
as a shot came in form the top of the 'D'. The goal was no less than
the visitors deserved as their midfield and defence worked hard to keep
Harborne at bay, and keep them at bay they did entering the break on
level terms.
As expected Harborne came out for the kill in the second half, but
Stourport three places below them in the league, weren't going to
oblige their hosts willingly, and in fact were to play better in the
second half than they had in the first. With Stourport working hard
for each, they took the lead when Denise Brandon got the final touch of
three, at the right hand post. But, Harborne aren't top of the table
for nothing, and pulled a goal back, again from a short corner and
again the ball was slipped into the corner of the goal. The hosts
followed this up with a third, and this time there was to be no
comeback for Stourport, despite their determination to come away with
at least a point. The frustration for Stourport was that they did
nearly nick a point at the end; a ball across the 'D' was only a hairs
breath from being converted, by the grounded Wilson. Harborne may have
continued their unbeaten run but they had to work for their points
against a Stourport side that were determined not to go home empty
handed. Stourport joint players of the match were youngster Katie
Walker, and Chris Corcoran.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH

13-4 winners at the final whistle of their home match against Old
Wulfronians last week.
A quintet of goals for Chris Davis on his debut, and Chris Smith
knocked the fight out of Old Wulfs who after putting in a creditable
performance in first half found themselves under cosh in the second, as
Stourport turned up the heat. Alastair McIntyre contributing two goals
in two minutes and then the final goal coming from Allan Moss to seal a
13-4 victory. Stourport's player of the match Chris Smith.

OPPOSITION: Birmingham University 2nd XI.

VENUE: Stourport Astro Pitches.

HALF TIME: 0-2.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport 1st XI ladies missed an opportunity to improve on their
league position, after they went down 4-0 to visitors and Midland B
league leaders Birmingham University, last week.
Unlike previous weeks the home side began well, keeping the ball and
creating some early chances from short corners, but, although the home
side were working hard they conceded a goal when they fell behind to
any effort at a short corner. The home side continuing to battle hard
had a golden opportunity to equalise, with a one on one with the
keeper, only for the keeper to come on top by saving the shot.
Birmingham had the edge over their hosts, keeping the pressure as they
passed the ball around with strength, leading to a goal from a reverse
stick shot, which left the hosts two goals down at the break.
Stourport unaffected by the scoreline kept their work rate high, but a
lapse of concentration in the defence, led to well a worked goal by the
visitors. Stourport still created chances with some good passing play
but it was to be Birmingham's day, the home side unable to change the
scoreline, found themselves further behind when their visitors added a
fourth and final goal when a shot at the top of the 'D' was deflected
in, by a Birmingham side who played well and took the points despite a
battling performance from Stourport.

OPPOSITION: Dudley 1st XI.

VENUE: Away.

HALF TIME: 0-0.

FULL TIME SCORE: 2-0.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Caroline Sidell.
Shelley Tromans.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Two second half goals sealed three points for Stourport ladies 2nd XI,
in the Midland Conference South, when they beat last weekends hosts
Dudley 1st XI, 2-0.
Stourport worked hard throughout the first half of this match, but,
despite creating numerous opportunities and winning a series of short
corners, the visitors were unable to hit Dudley where it hurts most,
and entered the half time break without a goal.
The breakthrough when it came was ten minutes into the second half,
Stourport's player of the match, Molly Weaver, picking the ball up on
the half way line, drove up the pitch and into the Dudley 'D', where
she unleashed a shot that was initially saved by the Dudley keeper, who'
d gone to ground to execute the save, only for Caroline Sidell to pop
the ball into the goal off her pads. Stourport stepped down a gear
after this, allowing their hosts to push forward in search of an
equaliser, but, the visitors defence, and keeper Sally Smith, who was
called upon to make a number of saves, like the rest of the squad
worked hard to secure the points, and secure the points they did with a
second goal after twenty five minutes, with another drive from the
half line into the 'D', this time by captain Shelley Tromans, the
resultant shot from the top of the area, took a deflection off a
defenders stick before finding it's way into the goal, to make certain
of the victory and the first three points that the 2nd's have won this
season.

MATCH DATE: Saturday 17th October 2009.

TEAM: Stourport 3rd XI.

OPPOSITION: Old Sills 2nd XI.

VENUE: Away.

HALF TIME: 1-0.

FULL TIME SCORE: 2-0.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Chloe Marshall-Walker.
Rhiannon Linnington-
Payne.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 3rd XI made it played four won four, in this season's
Worcestershire 2nd Division programme, when they beat hosts Old Sils, 2-
0 on their brand new pitch last weekend.
Despite their record so far this season Stourport were slow to make
any inroads into their hosts defence and only started to come alive
when Old Sils threatened with a series of short corners. Jolted into
life, the league leaders didn''t gain any immediate rewards for their
numerous attacks. In fact Stourport had to wait until midway through
the half until they broke the deadlock, finally making one of their
efforts, in the opposing 'D' count, with a goal from Chloe Marshall-
Walker, which gave the visitors the advantage at the break.
With the match as close as it had been Stourport needed an early goal
in the second half to feel secure, but, again they wasted their
chances, convincing Old Sils that they were in with a chance of
stealing at least a point from their visitors, and meaning that the
Stourport defence had to be on their toes and play a tight game to
prevent them from getting a sniff at goal. Perhaps with all the
pressure that Stourport were creating it was inevitable that they would
take the points, but, even so they were only secured, when, Stourport's
player of the match, Rhiannon Linnington-Payne, scrambled the ball
underneath the determined, and busy, Old Sils keeper goal, to give the
visitors the cushion they needed to leave them two points clear at the
top of the table.

TEAM: Stourport 4th XI.

OPPOSITION: Worcester 3rd XI.

VENUE: Stourport Astro Pitches.

HALF TIME: 0-2.

FULL TIME SCORE: 0-2.

STOURPORT SCORERS: .

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 4th XI unbeaten in all of their previous
Worcestershire 3rd XI Division matches, this season, came down to earth
with a bump last weekend when their visitors, Worcester 3rd XI, beat
them 2-0.
The first ten minutes of the half set the pattern of the match as
Stourport produced all of the pressure but couldn't' find away through
the visiting defence. Worcester weren't' completely confined to their
own half pressing forward on occasions to test the Stourport defence,
and it was only a basic mistake by the Stourport centre back, that
allowed the visitors to take the lead, mid way through the half.
Stourport came back, but, find they were unable to crack the Worcester
defence, who were determined not to let anything get past them. If the
home side had thought themselves unlucky to be a goal down, then when
the visitors had another stroke of luck in front of goal, and scored a
second, then perhaps the home side had an inkling that the match was
just not going to go their way.
Two – nil down at the break Stourport came out in the second half
determined to put four past the Worcester keeper, before the final
whistle. But, the home side was unfortunate enough to find the
visiting keeper in unbeatable form, with Stourport captain Teri Baron,
having at lest four efforts saved, which on another day would have gone
in. Meanwhile at the other end Worcester still attempted to relive the
pressure on their back four by going forward but they too were thwarted
in their efforts to add to their score, and had to settle for the two
goals as the final whistle brought the curtain down on what was a
frustrating day for the hosts. Stourport's player of the match Kathy
Doyle.

3rd's Two Points Clear at Top!

MATCH DATE: Saturday 10th October 2009.

TEAM: Stourport 1st XI.

OPPOSITION: North Notts.

VENUE: Away.

HALF TIME: 3-0.

FULL TIME SCORE: 3-2.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Jade Marshall-Walker.
Jodi Vincent.
Erin Preece

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport 1st XI ladies took a three goal lead into the half time
break but, had to settle for 3-2 victory, after their hosts North Notts
scored twice in the second last weekend in this Midland B fixture.
Stourport started well with some strong passing play converting this
into pressure on the North Notts team from the start. The first goal
came from Jade Marshall-Walker who calmly slotted the ball into the
corner of the opposition's goal. Stourport remained strong and a
second goal came quickly afterwards from Jodi Vincent, who later set up
Erin Preece, after her reverse shot was deflected out to Preece who
smashed it into the net.
Stourport were slower to react in the second half though the pressure
on North Notts remained high. Bad communication in the Stourport side
led to the first goal for the home side, with the Stourport defence
unable to do much to stop them. And, when North Notts were awarded and
converted a penalty flick shortly afterwards, for a bad tackle against
a player in the 'D', Stourport were left feeling the pressure, their
frustration running high as North Notts were getting more and more
physical as they increased the pressure on the Stourport defence,
however the visitors were able to remain strong and the scoreline did
not change leaving Stourport with a well earned win.

OPPOSITION: Bridgnorth.

VENUE: Stourport Astro Pitches.

HALF TIME: 1-1.

FULL TIME SCORE: 1-2.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Melissa Kennedy.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 2nd XI went down 2-1 to visiting Bridgnorth, last
weekend in an evenly matched Midland Conference South game.
Stourport came out strongly from the hit back, putting Bridgnorth
under intense pressure, in the opening ten minutes, and on occasions
were only denied a goal by the umpires whistle. However, the visitors
weathered the storm and applied their own period of pressure to the
home goal, and with no umpires whistle preventing them from taking the
lead, Stourport found themselves a goal down. The home side fought
back and finally their pressure told, at a short corner which Holly
Lashford slipped to Nicky Beasley, who passed it on for Melissa Kennedy
to round off the move with an equaliser.
The scores level at the break reflected the nature of the match, and a
draw would have probably been a just result, but, neither side wanted
to settle for a point, and Bridgnorth in particular pushed forward,
putting Stourport under pressure. But, defenders Lashford, Hannah
Corcoran, and Stourport's player of the match Sarah Taylor were having
none of it, holding the visitors back until the final five minutes,
when from open play Bridgnorth scored to steal the points from under
the nose of Stourport, who'd done more than enough to have a point
from this encounter.

OPPOSITION: Bournville 2nd XI.

VENUE: Away.

HALF TIME: 2-2.

FULL TIME SCORE: 3-2.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Kate Bailey (2).
Jen Peniket.
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 3rd XI followed up the previous week's victory over
Old Hales, with a 3-2 win over their hosts, Bournville 2nd XI in last
weeks Worcestershire 2nd Division match.
Stourport pressured their hosts from the start but kept running into a
solid Bournville defence, which didn't concede a single short corner in
the opening half, much to the frustration of their visitors. However,
Stourport finally sneaked into the lead, with a Jen Peniket goal, who
at the near post. Kate Bailey had added a second before the home side
enjoyed a golden ten minutes, where they pulled the scores level.
Firstly they managed to scramble the ball across the line at a short
corner, and then lifted the ball, over the Stourport defence to a
waiting Bournville player who to put the ball pass the Stourport
keeper.
Stourport came out strongly once again in the second half, but again
found it difficult to penetrate Bournville's back line, although they
did course enough problems for the home defence to give away some short
corners. The visitors never faltered in their efforts to leave with
the three points and with five minutes left on the clock, they finally
made it three wins out of three in the league this season when Bailey
scored her second from open play and leave Stourport two points clear
at the top of the table.

HALF TIME: 3-0.

FULL TIME SCORE: 5-0.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Teri Baron (3).
Kathy Doyle.
Caroline Wilson.
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 4th XI chalked up another three points, last weekend,
when they beat their visitors to The Kingsway, Bournville 3rds's, 5-0
in a shortened Worcestershire 3rd Division match.
Stourport made the early running in a match that at one point looked
as though, it wouldn't take place, when their opposition found
themselves stuck in traffic. However Bournville did make it to The
Kingsway, but, the home side had to be content to watch their
opposition arrive in dribs and drabs, and once Bournville had the
required seven players the match began, and unfortunately for
Bournville whose goalkeeper had not yet made it to the venue, it began
badly, with two goals for Stourport captain Teri Baron, in the opening
ten minutes. Once at full strength the visitors rallied, but it was
the home side that could've scored next when a Bournville foot on the
line saw Stourport being awarded a penalty flick, unfortunately for the
home side the chance was put against the post and deflected off the
back line. Bournville continued to threaten the home goal but failed
to make much of an impression, whilst the Stourport attack were
creating plenty of chances, but, were unable to take them, or at lest
not until the final moments of the half, when Caroline Wilson well
positioned and free at the left hand post, tapped the ball into add a
third before the break.
Bournville came out in the second half, with more determination but
Stourport were equal to it and damped the visitor's sprits further with
a fourth goal, within ten minutes of the restart, Kathy Doyle receiving
the ball, from a short corner, at the top of the 'D' blasted a shot in
which deflected off a defenders stick into the goal. From then on
Bournville could only muster breakaways, as Stourport applied the
pressure, but once again couldn't produce the goals, until virtually
the final hit of the match when Baron added her hat trick goal, which
leaves Stourport lying second in the table, behind Harborne 5th's.
Stourport players of the match, Louise Marshall who was making her
debut for the club, and Kathy Doyle.

1st's Secure First League Victory

MATCH DATE: Saturday 10th October 2009.

TEAM: Stourport 1st XI Team News.

OPPOSITION: North Notts.

VENUE: Away.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
After gaining their first three points of the season, last weekend,
when they entertained and beat Leighton Buzzard 4-1, Stourport ladies
1st will be off their travels this weekend, when North Notts will be
their hosts in match which has an 11 Am hit back.

Stourport ladies 2nd XI were on the wrong end of a 4-1 defeat, when
they traveled to Leamington, for their Midlands Conference South match
last weekend. (At the time of writing Stourport's goal scorer was
unknown).

Meanwhile Stourport 4th XI ladies found themselves with six points
after two matches, despite the fact that they didn't hit a ball in
angry, last weekend, taking three points from their away match against
Bromsgrove 3rd' XI, when a mix up in pitch times saw the visiting
Stourport side ready to play at 10 Am and the Bromsgrove side thinking
they'd got a later beginning. Unable to wait for the later start time
the visitors claimed the match and a 3-0 victory.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 1st XI clinched their first win of the season, last
weekend, when they beat their visitors, Leighton Buzzard, in this
Midland B match 4-1.
Stourport began the match coming out hard at their opposition and
reaped the rewards with a goal by Erin Preece in the opening five
minutes. The home side wasn't ahead for long though, when the visitors
capitalized on a weak pass by the Stourport defence, which found
Leighton Buzzard's centre forward. Stourport's game was slow and
scrappy throughout the first half, and weak passing prevented them from
moving the ball around the pitch well. However it was the home side
that had the lead at the break, Liz Cooke taking advantage of some bad
defending by the visitors defence to slam the ball into the back of the
goal.
A harsh team talk from the coach at half time had the desired effect
as Stourport stepped up their game. This proved to be frustrating for
the visitors, which boiled over when their captain received a green
card. Preece, who ran rings around the visitors defence, added a
second when a powerful pass from Stourport Fran Moss, found her which
she converted skillful.
Leighton still pushed forward but Stourport's player of the match
Kerry Maughan fraught off the visitor's efforts, with her quick
dribbling skills. Stourport's movement around the Leighton 'D' led to
another goal for the home side with the ball being passed to Rene
Johnson who dribbled the ball into the midst of the visitors defence
and hammered the ball into the goal. Leighton could do little to get
past a strong Stourport side, which stood firm until the final
whistle.

STOURPORT SCORERS: Georgia Hingley.
Kate Bailey.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MATCH
Stourport ladies 3rd XI, made it two wins out of two, in the
Worcestershire 2nd Division when they took the points against their
visitors Old Halesonians, beating them 2-0 last weekend.
Stourport had the majority of the play, but found their attack
breaking down in the face of an experienced Old Hales defence, and the
home side could've been forgiven for breathing a collective sigh of
relief, as Georgi Hingley managed to score after twenty five minutes.
Still, they may have had a lot of defending to do but Old Hales, could
still have leveled the scores before the break and were unlucky not to
have been level at the half way point.
Stourport began the second half in the same manor, and after fifteen
minutes Kate Bailey found a gap between the keeper and the post,
following a short corner, for the home sides second. The goal was the
killer punch as far as Old Hales were concerned, who weren't able to
get back into the match. Stourport on the other hand kept up the
pressure but were unable to increase their before the final whistle.

SHC Vets still like winning trophies and gold medals!

Quite rightly the Juniors get lots of publicity regarding their
successes in under 18 tournaments etc. but 'the very seniors' still
enjoy competition.

Last weekend at Cannock The Midlands over 60s, with representation
from Stourport Hockey Club, won the divisional tournament, if not for
the first time, certainly it's some considerable time since doing so.

On the Saturday they beat the North 4-1 and drew with the South 1-1( 2
blatant flicks not awarded). Messrs Stone and Read departed on
Saturday 'injured' not expected to return on Sunday but duly
recovered, 'mind over matter', to return and take a full part on
Sunday in beating the East 2-0  and the West 2-1.

From a Stourport point of view what was impressive was we had four
players in a very effective squad of 16, all whom made a real
contribution. We had Keith Wills in goal, David Readb at the back,
Neil Stone in midfield and Frank Colwill up front. The South really
loved Frank!! The other 12 players were made up of one each from
individual clubs.

This event is part of the selection process for the Grand Masters
European Championships and World cups which are held on alternate
years. This year it is the European championships at Amsterdam in
August. 'Stoney' must be in with a shout if the body holds up, and
'Willsy' can have done himself no harm by making some outstanding
saves in open play.

So the motto is keep going. There is fun to be had. We should get more
representation in the other veterans age groups. For example I
recommended Keith and Frank to the Midlands last year .It's all good
publicity for the club and it spreads the word when there there are
lots of Stourports in the Match programmes.

Stourport Sports Club Plans

Please find below some notes which are intended to help members understand the plans which have been drawn up (The plans were drawn up after consultation with all members of Stourport Sports Club). The notes are not exhaustive but contain some of the main bits of information which are useful to know when looking at the plans. Please remember that the plans are not final and have only at this stage just been submitted for approval, they may be subject to change.

External
The new building is currently planned to be built on the original foundations and will follow the same footprint, so the external shape of the building will be very similar to the original. The roofline is proposed to be lower and the clock tower has been replaced by a ventilation beehive. The plans also include a separate entrance for the function room. The building will be sited in the same place.
For an outline design of the elevations please click here.
For an outline design of the perspective views please click here.

Internal
Inside the building the central corridor has been retained and the function room remains very similar at the back of the building. The garages are no longer a part of the building and will be relocated elsewhere on site. The whole building will also be level, there will no longer be a ramp down the central corridor.

The left hand side of the building is now solely devoted to social facilities, operations, bar and catering. There is an extra lounge/bar that has been created at the front of the building which in conjunction with the existing function room will allow 2 social facilities to be used at the same time. The lounge at the front of the building can also be divided into meeting room space. The kitchen is now on the same side as the bar to ensure operations are smoother and easier.

The right hand side of the building is devoted to changing rooms and toilets. There are 4 changing rooms in total which are all slightly larger than the previous ones. They all include additonal showers and a toilet in each one. There are also now 2 separate male and female toilet blocks, which are also larger than the previous ones. The first aid room, disabled toilet/shower and referees changing rooms are still included at the far right of the building.

It is intended that everyday access to the building will be through the main entrance at the front of the building. Sports users will then enter the changing rooms and leave through the "sports entrance/exit" on the far right of the building. When returning to the building to change they will enter through the "sports entrance/exit" to access the changing rooms and then access the lounge from here. There is a set of doors half way along the main corridor which can be used to divide the building. If there is a function taking place and the front lounge is being used these can be closed to keep both events separate. Both events will access a toilet block either side of the doors. Function room users will access their function via the entrance at the back of the building that goes directly into the function room.
For an outline design of the ground floor please click here.

Netball Covered Courts

Plans have been approved for 2 netball courts to be enclosed by a covered enclosure at Stourport Sports Club. These will be sited at the far end of the existing netball courts in between the hockey pitches. For further information and to view the submitted plans please follow the links below.

www.buy.at/SHC

We have received our first cheque from www.buy.at/SHC. This was for a very small number of transactions, but it bought in 40 quid to the Club coffers. For those of you that are not aware, the www.buy.at scheme allows organisations (like us) to raise funds by providing a Stourport Hockey Club shopping portal on the web.
Basically, there are hundreds of very well established stores that are available through the www.buy.at service.
To name a few, there are:

  • Amazon
  • John Lewis
  • Marks and Spencer
  • HMV
  • IKEA
  • BT
  • Tesco
  • Expedia
  • Mothercare
  • Premier Inn
There are literally hundreds of stores available, offering services like shopping, travel, insurance, online services and many other items. There is absolutely no downside to shopping this way. You can still use your existing account with any of the online shops and services and all of the same offers are available by going through the www.buy.at/SHC portal. All that is required, in order to raise funds for the club, is that you access the store via our Stourport Hockey Club "portal" at www.buy.at/SHC.

If you do any shopping online, or buy any services online, then please try and remember to do it through the above link, (remember to bookmark the link in your web browser)!

Please feel free to forward the link to any family and friends that you feel would like to help raise funds for the Club, (don't send out loads of SPAM messages to every email address you have though...)!

This could be a tremendous way for us to really boost our funds, all it needs is for all of us to remember to use the link!
